A co-founder of Restore Britain has said Muslims are “less British” than Christians.
Charlie Downes, who is the campaign director for the Right-wing party, said Muslims had little claim to being regarded as British because they lacked any deep connection to the country.
His comments have provoked a wave of condemnation from a number of religious faiths, with Muslim leaders describing them as divisive and discriminatory. In response to a question about what makes someone British, Mr Downes told TalkTV: “It’s about a far deeper thing, it’s about a connection to this land, it’s about an ancestry here. More than anything it’s Christian faith; it’s ancestry and it’s Christian faith. “You’re certainly less British if you’re not a believer in Christian principles. If somebody was Islamic then they are certainly less British.” Resist Comment. Charlie Downes is absolutely right. Anybody who professes the islamic so-called faith is less than British. islam has no place in the UK: it is an evil presence in the world.
