Plight of Christian street preachers is another sign of our cultural heritage being challenged by islam

When Sir Keir Starmer entered Downing Street, he promised a government that would “tread more lightly” on the lives of citizens. He has not kept that promise. What we have instead is an administration that has criminalised everyday behaviour, trampled on ancient liberties and treated our institutions as obstacles to be cleared rather than traditions worth keeping.

Nowhere is this more visible than in the treatment of Christian street preachers – a crackdown that receives little attention from the commentariat but speaks volumes about the two-tier policing that has taken root under this Government. Free speech and freedom of religion are values forged over centuries from our Judeo-Christian inheritance. Starmer’s Britain is squandering them.

None of this should come as a surprise. It is now apparently contentious to point out that Britain is a Christian country – historically, culturally and constitutionally. Yet it is true. But today, up and down the country, police forces are capitulating to activists who want to silence anyone who fails to share their beliefs.

The Public Order Act 1986 has become their weapon of choice. The standard scenario goes like this: a preacher stands in a town centre or outside a Tube station and recites biblical teaching on marriage, criticises islam, or questions trans ideology. A single complaint is made. He is arrested and bundled into a police van. Hours later, he is released without charge, because what he said was not a crime. It never is. But the arrest sends an alarming message.

Last week brought welcome, if long overdue, news. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they have dropped their investigation into Dia Moodley, the evangelical preacher, who was arrested in Bristol city centre for criticising trans ideology and comparing Christianity with islam.

Resist Comment.  This is a further example of British culture being trashed by our so-called leaders.  When will they realise that islam is essentially an evil death-cult: look at the actions of the Taliban, the theocracy in Iran, Boko Haram in Africa.  Our ancestors did not fight 2 World Wars only for this degraded and barbaric culture to be allowed to flourish in Britain.
