The catalogue of Britain’s moral evasions is growing longer by the day, and nowhere is it more glaring than in our failure to confront the resurgence of anti-Semitism. What should have been unthinkable in a modern liberal democracy has instead become disturbingly routine. This is not a marginal issue, nor a fleeting moment of prejudice. It is a test – of our institutions, our political class and the integrity of the values we claim to uphold. And right now, it is a test we are failing.

Anti-Semitism is a national emergency, a crisis of the utmost urgency, an existential moment for our country’s traditions of freedom and democracy.

The vicious attacks in Golders Green, the despicable killings in Manchester, the outrages in Kenton, Finchley, Watford and elsewhere, the hate on social media, the persecution of students, artists and academics: is that what we have become? Is that what we now mean by “British values”: hypersensitivity towards often imaginary “microaggressions”, but indifference towards genuinely violent, rage-filled Jew-hatred?

Why isn’t there more outrage at the spread of islamism? The rise of the BNP was rightly taboo, so why isn’t the emergence of this new generation of extremists deemed equally intolerable? And what about the spread of toxic ideas among white, middle-class lefties?

Private disapproval isn’t enough. Our society claims to care about the “lived experience” of all minorities, but there is a glaring exception: that of Jewish people, whose views count for little.

Where are the massive cross-party, multi-faith demos, the million-signatory petitions, the sort of mobilisation we have seen so many times in the past after a grave injustice has been committed? Why do so few people care about the explosion of anti-Jewish terrorism? Why do so few realise that the tsunami of loathing directed at Britain’s oldest and best-established minority is a harbinger of an all-out assault on Western values and our civilisation?

There is a sickness, a darkness, at the heart of our culture (brought about by the death cult of islam), and it is high time we face up to it. The double standards are extraordinary. We cancel anybody with the temerity to engage in whatever the elites deem to be wrongspeak, however innocuous. Yet our country turns a blind eye to those promoting what Sir Mark Rowley, the Met Police chief, calls the “pandemic of anti-Semitism”, an absurd, embittered, conspiratorial ideology that blames the Jews for all of the world’s ills and inevitably descends into violent pogroms. It’s an abomination. Modern Britain has failed. The multicultural dream we were sold is turning into a chimera. Too many people who hate our values have been allowed in and granted British citizenship. The idea that tolerance, freedom of religion and “diversity” were the defining values of our time has been exposed as a sham. Our ruling class likes one version of diversity – the fashionable, kumbaya kind – but Jews aren’t in vogue, so they have been abandoned to the rising tide of Islamist and far-Left prejudice. In his defence, Rowley, previously weak on the subject, is seeing the light, and rightly calling for more resources and a special unit to tackle anti-Semitism. But like Sir Keir Starmer’s slightly stronger speech last week, it is largely a case of too little, too late. Enmity has been allowed to fester for years, and especially since Oct 7, a genocidal anti-Jewish turning point that has since been subjected to the most grotesque of moral inversions and endless hate marches. The return of anti-Semitism – a malady many naively thought had gone extinct – smashes every liberal assumption about Britain, about modernity, and about the nature of what we used to call progress. It exposes our holier-than-thou progressive elites, our activist and celebrity class, as gormless hypocrites. They claim to be driven by a passion to fight injustice, intolerance and hatred, but shrug off, or even incite themselves, the oldest of hatreds. The ancient poison is back, now rebottled as anti-Zionism, but it remains just as lethal. Anti-Semitism is the ultimate shape-shifting prejudice, accusing Jews of whatever falls foul of the received wisdom and elite moral code of the moment. Israel is the only nation-state to be considered “illegitimate”; only Israel is told that any attempt at self-defence is almost automatically tantamount to a “war crime”; only Israel is held to improbably high standards on every front, rather than treated like every other imperfect society; only Israel is relentlessly accused of every old, reheated blood libel, including killing children. A crime committed by an Israeli is met with far more outrage than the same crime committed by somebody in any other Western country, such as France or Australia, whose militaries also occasionally do stupid or terrible things. Did you know that there are prisons in Israel! Prisons! What a scandal! How can such a country be allowed to exist? Fed on a diet of lies, psy-ops and propaganda, many otherwise intelligent people display an extreme ignorance of Middle East affairs. They know nothing about the history, the ideologies, the theology, the proposed peace deals, the rejected land-for-peace agreements or any other vital details. They believe every untruth about Israel, they feel disproportionate outrage about every genuine Israeli pathology, and implicitly downgrade or even ignore every monstrosity committed by the Palestinian elites. They promote the fake genocide libel, the malicious and false claim that Israel has engaged in a genocide of Palestinians, while simultaneously being entirely indifferent to the fate of Muslims in every other country, from China to Iran. They inflame passions on British streets, fuelling anti-Semitism like nothing else. These people are either fools, or evil. Tragically, many in Britain who should know better will end up voting for extremist parties next week. The Green Party, which is riddled with maniacs, will do well, and win many councils. This will be a shameful development. Zack Polanski’s apology on Friday afternoon is worthless. His party is a cancer gnawing away at the British polity. Independent sectarians will also do well, another travesty of our democracy. The new dividing line in British politics is whether you are aghast at the spread of anti-Western and anti-Semitic prejudice, or whether you are indifferent to it, or even support such a sick worldview. Grim, grim times. Resist Comment:  The failure to protect our Jewish communities is a national scandal.  We repeat:  WHILE EVER THE LABOUR GOVERNMENT WELCOMES MUSLIMS INTO THE COUNTRY THESE ATTACKS WILL CONTINUE.  LABOUR WILL NOT CONFRONT THIS BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO SCARED.  MEANWHILE THE EVIL OF islam CONTINUES TO ERODE OUR INSTITUTIONS AND WAY OF LIFE.
